CHINA TRADEMARK SERVICES
Protect the brand
you bring to China.
A filing is one part of the plan. Your name, products, Chinese-language use, existing rights and commercial priorities all affect the work.
Discuss your China trademarkTHE SCOPE OF THE MATTER
From first assessment to later decisions.
Search and brand-name assessment
Assess the original mark, proposed Chinese wording and potentially relevant earlier records. Discuss the search scope, risks and limits; a search is not a guarantee of registration.
Application preparation and filing
Review applicant details, mark format, goods and services and the chosen China filing route. Confirm document and authorization requirements for the specific applicant.
Maintenance and portfolio changes
Discuss renewals, assignments, name/address changes and the records needed to keep the portfolio aligned with the business.
Trademark administrative disputes
Discuss a refusal, opposition, invalidation or cancellation with the relevant notice, rights and evidence. Work starts only after scope and representation are agreed.
BEFORE YOU APPOINT US
Review the search assessment and filing plan.
Start with your mark, products or services and intended use in China. Review a mark-specific search assessment and proposed application plan before deciding whether to instruct us.
The quotation should define the search scope, how findings will be reported and the proposed filing work. Review the relevant earlier records, goods and services and any issues identified; a search cannot guarantee registration.
Agree the deliverables and reporting format for your matter. Service fees, official fees and subsequent steps belong in the engagement documents, so you can review the work before authorizing it.

Domestic filing or Madrid designation?
Domestic China route
A China trademark application is made through the domestic process. The applicant’s residence or business establishment affects representation requirements.
Madrid designation of China
Eligible applicants may use the Madrid System to seek protection in China. Eligibility, the basic mark and any China-stage issue need separate consideration.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Before deciding on the work.
Does every foreign applicant have to use ChanYond?
No. CNIPA distinguishes domestic applications by foreign applicants without the relevant residence or business establishment in China from other situations, and also identifies the Madrid route. Where a domestic agency is required, you may choose a legally established agency; there is no requirement to choose ChanYond.
Should we protect a Chinese-language brand name?
It is a separate strategy question. Discuss the name you use or plan to use, your products, existing rights and how customers identify the brand. Original-language and Chinese-language marks may need separate assessment.
What if a trademark has already been filed by someone else?
Share the mark, application or registration number, current status and your own earlier rights or evidence. Possible administrative steps depend on those facts and deadlines; an inquiry does not itself appoint us to act.
