INTERNATIONAL TRADEMARK PROJECTS

A new market calls
for a specific plan.

Discuss trademark protection outside China with your existing portfolio and commercial priorities in view. The work, countries and qualified providers are confirmed for each project.

Discuss target markets

Project coordination is distinct from independent legal representation in another jurisdiction.

BEFORE CHOOSING COUNTRIES

Start with what the business will do.

  1. Map the intended activity

Tell us where you plan to sell, manufacture, distribute or license, and which markets matter first.

  2. Review the current portfolio

Identify the owner, mark formats, goods and services and existing national or international applications and registrations.

  3. Define the route and participants

Discuss national and Madrid options where relevant, proposed work and the qualified providers required for the countries involved.

KNOW WHO DOES WHAT

Coordination with a defined boundary.

A single project can involve several jurisdictions. Clear responsibility matters as much as a convenient contact point.

ChanYond can discuss organizing instructions, documents and communications for an international trademark project. Whether a country or service can be included must be confirmed for your case.

Advice and representation requiring local professional authorization are undertaken by appropriately qualified providers. Their role, fees and engagement arrangements must be clear before instruction.

Confirm the proposed provider and their role before authorizing local advice or representation.

NATIONAL OR INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM

Madrid is an option to assess.

The Madrid System requires a qualifying connection to a member and a basic application or registration with the Office of origin. Each designated member’s domestic law determines the protection available. A Madrid registration is not a universal trademark right.

Share your existing portfolio before choosing a route. The appropriate combination of national and international filings depends on your circumstances.
